What We Offer

Bariatric Surgery Options

Dr. Caban offers three main procedures for patients that never had bariatric surgery. These procedures include the lap band, sleeve gastrectomy, and Roux en Y gastric bypass.  Revisions are also available when appropriate.

Lap Band

Adjustable Gastric Band is a low-risk procedure that can achieve between 40-50% EBW loss. It involves placing a silicone adjustable band in the upper part of the stomach to restrict food intake.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

The Sleeve Gastrectomy is also a restrictive procedure that involves removing 3/4 of the stomach to diminish the amount of food you can eat. The average weight loss is between 60-70% EBW.

Gastric Bypass

Roux en Y gastric bypass is a restrictive and malabsorptive procedure that is considered the gold standard for bariatric surgery. The average weight loss is between 70-80% EBW.

After Surgery

After Bariatric Surgery

Dr. Caban performs the procedures at West Marion Community Hospital. At this institution, he has access to state of the art high definition surgical equipment that increases visualization and allows for a safer minimally invasive approach.

Because the bariatric surgery is done through small incisions the average hospital stay for most patients is only two days or less. At West Marion Community Hospital all the patient’s rooms are private, spacious, quiet and clean. Dr. Caban believes this is an essential part of your recovery by minimizing exposure to bacteria and by giving you the privacy that you deserve.

Bariatric Surgery
After discharge from the hospital, you will follow the diet that was given to you before the surgery during the mandatory preop class given by the bariatric coordinator. In this booklet, you will find essential information regarding your diet and many other frequently asked questions.

You will see Dr. Caban in the office two weeks after your surgery for the first post-op appointment. The subsequent visits for the first year will be every three months. You also have access to the bariatric surgery support group that is given the first Thursday of every month.

We also offer FREE post-op classes that you can take as many times as you will like. The classes can be fundamental in your success and can be of significant help. These classes are given by the bariatric program coordinator and the dietitian.
