Angel M. Caban, MD
Dr. Angel Caban was born and raised in a very small town on the west side of Puerto Rico. He is the youngest sibling of a large humble family. Being the youngest in the family he got to experience many aspects of life through the experiences of his parents and siblings. He also learned many manual skills through physical labor that he carries today and that were the beginning of his outstanding surgical skills.
His family has a strong Catholic background and after graduating from a private Catholic school he enrolled in college at the University of PR were he graduated with honors. Four years later he completed his medical doctor’s degree at the University Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico.
His surgical training started at St. Vincents Hospital in New York City and he then transferred to the University of Florida in Gainesville where he graduated as one of the best surgeons in his class. Dr. Caban became a Board Certified General Surgeon after passing the American Boards of Surgery examination on the first attempt. The last stage of his training took placed at UT Southwestern in Dallas Texas where he completed a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery.

After his lengthy training, Dr. Angel Caban joined the faculty at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was involved in training medical students, surgical residents and bariatric surgery fellows. He also developed a very busy practice that involved performing highly complex cases using minimally invasive surgical techniques.
In January of 2014 he parted ways from the university and began his career dream in private practice. In just a few months Dr. Caban changed the general surgery program at West Marion Hospital in Ocala Florida. Dr. Angel Caban became the most prominent general surgeon in the community by performing over 600 operations a year. Prior to his arrival in Marion County, many patients had to seek medical attention far from home due to the lack of expertise in the area of advanced laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Caban is a highly skilled surgeon that specializes in abdominal surgery. This includes bariatric surgery, abdominal wall hernias, antireflux surgery, colon surgery, surgical oncology and many other complex surgeries of the abdominal cavity.
He is an outstanding surgeon that is very respected by the hospital staff, clinic staff and the community in general. We are very fortunate to have him in our community.
